Admissions
This is an 8-bed ward for patients when they are first admitted to Alders Clinic. Here, the focus is on building the therapeutic relationship – while completing assessments, deciding on treatment plans, maintaining safety and achieving stabilisation.
The team in Severn Ward support people in learning to manage their emotions and reduce self-harm behaviours. Their work is to create the foundation for a successful therapeutic relationship – and to establish the patients’ journey to recovery.
Care and treatment
This 6-bed ward cares for patients who have already learned some of the skills to manage their safety – and have set their recovery goals. Here, they take on greater responsibility and are actively involved in setting and regularly reviewing goals.
Patients can contribute to the ward in a number of ways, such as chairing or minuting Patient Council meetings, gardening or cleaning. They may also have the opportunity to take part in community activities outside of the clinic.
The team on Avon Ward help patients develop interpersonal skills while gaining a deeper understanding of their personalities and what’s important to them. They support patients to develop the skills and confidence to carry out activities and pursue goals that give them meaning and purpose – which is an important part of their journey to recovery.
Pre-discharge
This ward offers plenty of variety – supporting patients as they become more independent and take up roles and activities in the community. Coln Ward enables the people in our care to practise the skills they’ve acquired in settings outside of the hospital. They begin cooking for themselves, using local services and finding jobs in the community.
Work on this ward involves overseeing a wide range of patient activity and putting in place relapse prevention plans. The team supports patients in continuing to develop the skills that will enable them to sustain community living upon discharge.
