Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is an 81 bedded hospital with six wards consisting of a medium secure male ward, one low secure male ward, two PICU male wards and two acute female wards. In May 2024 the hospital was Rated ‘Good’ by the CQC across all domains.

The Role:

We are currently looking to employ a full time Forensic, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work either on a Medium Secure Male ward or across a PICU and Acute ward. The successful candidate will join a team comprised of qualified, trainee, assistant and honorary psychologists. We are seeking a strong candidate to support and enhance the psychological care of patients at the service by assisting the team with;

  • Assessments, scoring and reporting (verbal / written)
  • Clinical formulation and implementing care plans for psychological treatment
  • Planning, delivering and evaluating individual / group programmes
  • Administration, audit, research and service development
  • Supervision and Training

We are looking for someone who is…

  • A HCPC registered Forensic, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (or in the last six months of training if so a preceptorship can be offered)
  • Previous experience within a secure/forensic and/or PICU/ACUTE setting
  • Preferably trained in complex therapies such as Schema, CBT, DBT, EMDR
  • Knowledge and experience of risk assessments (e.g. HCR-20)
  • Trained in specialised assessments such (e.g. WAIS-IV, MCMI-IV, IPDE)
  • Capable of treating difficulties such as self-harm, physical & verbal aggression, history of sexual offending and drug & alcohol problems.
