Post:    Occupational Therapist (Band 5)

Salary: £37,580

Base:  Cygnet Hospital Beckton, Hooper Ward (Female acute ward)

Responsible for:

  • The post holder will be the Occupational Therapist for Hooper Ward
  • Supervision of 1 Occupational Therapy Assistant.

 

Responsible to: Head OT (based at Cygnet Hospital Beckton) and Regional OT (based at Cygnet Hospital Churchill)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: 23 Tunnan Leys, Beckton, E6 6ZB.

 

Overview of site/Ward:

Hooper Ward is Cygnet Hospital Beckton’s 13 bed acute mental health service for women. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of this service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our team works closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct clinical care which will encompass OT assessments, treatment and management of individuals / interventions and support for individuals within the service. In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to an individual’s identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly within the multidisciplinary team.

The Successful Candidate should be/have:

  • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
  • RCOT Membership
  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a “hands on” approach
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Passionate about student education
  • Ability to manage demanding clinical presentation
  • Some experience in the field of adult mental health
  • Working as a Band 5 OT or are a newly qualified OT
  • Able to effectively lead a team with support from Senior OT staff

Requirements
