We are looking for a confident Fitness instructor with both a passion for delivering outstanding service and an interest in mental health care.

You’ll be working flexible bank Shifts at Cygnet Kenney House.

Cygnet Kenney House is our new hospital for women, located in Oldham. The service provides a safe and secure care pathway for women with mental health need and is now open.

We have collaborated with the NHS to develop services to support women from the North West to be treated closer to home. There are three wards at Cygnet Kenney House; Billington Ward, a 12 bed specialist Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Baldock Ward, a 16 bed Acute service and Harben Ward, a 16 bed mental health rehabilitation and recovery service.

The PICU and Acute environments offer rapid access to care, supporting women to move quickly and safely through to the most appropriate and least restrictive setting. The mental health rehabilitation and recovery ward (level 2) supports individuals moving on from the Acute ward, as well as external referrals from other services such as secure, CAMHS, and more.

Your Day-to-Day…

  • Assist in planning and facilitating a broad range of needs-led individual and group fitness, exercise and leisure sessions, accommodating each service user’s interests.
  • Show sensitivity to the mental health conditions the service users experience, the disadvantage this has brought them and the impact this has on service users interest in their physical health
  • Be responsible for risk assessments of the spaces used for physical activity and have an awareness of the daily risks presented by each service user prior to each physical activity engagement
  • Attend (when relevant) and actively contribute to CPA, working collaboratively with MDT colleagues in the planning and delivery of service users fitness programmes
  • To input notes into My Path contemporaneously and contribute to CPA/WR Summary reports as and when appropriate
  • Assist service users in establishing effective fitness/wellness goals and develop the most effective training plan to achieve those goals.
  • Teach & Supervise service users to ensure they are exercising safely and effectively.

You are… 

  • Experienced or newly qualified trainer with a REPs Level 3 Qualification in Fitness Instructing awarded by: CIMSPA, Active IQ, CYQ, VTCT, YMCA or City and Guilds.
  • Experience in working with people who have mental health problems is desirable.
  • Be skilled at motivating people with compassion to engage in exercise in order to support their physical and mental health.
  • Highly organised, with a positive attitude
  • Proactive ability to problem solve
  • Positive in your approach to working with challenging behaviours
  • Experienced in planning, resourcing & carrying out events & activities
  • Can take a “hands on” approach
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
