Are you an experienced Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant or Care Worker in the Taunton area looking for a rewarding role in mental health services?

At Cygnet Hospital Taunton, we are looking for compassionate and reliable Support Workers to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in health and social care, mental health support, learning disabilities, autism, residential care, hospital care or supported living.

You’ll be part of a dedicated team supporting adults in a specialist mental health hospital setting, helping people build confidence, develop independence and work towards positive outcomes.

About Cygnet Hospital Taunton

Cygnet Hospital Taunton provides acute inpatient admissions services for men and women, as well as a specialist inpatient service for men diagnosed with a learning disability. We are also developing a new neurocognitive service line for men.

Located in Taunton, Somerset, this role may suit candidates living locally in areas such as Taunton, Bridgwater, Wellington, Yeovil, Chard, Ilminster,

Minehead, Wiveliscombe, Tiverton and surrounding areas.

What you’ll be doing as a Support Worker

As a Support Worker at Cygnet Hospital Taunton, you’ll work 38.5 hours per week supporting people with mental health needs in a safe, structured and therapeutic environment.

Shifts: Days, nights and weekends. Flexibility is required.

  • Providing high-quality care and support to service users, patients and residents
  • Offering emotional and practical support to help individuals feel safe, respected and understood
  • Supporting people with daily routines, independence and wellbeing
  • Learning about each individual’s specific needs and providing person-centred support
  • Assisting with medical, welfare and physical health needs, reporting concerns where required
  • Helping to safeguard vulnerable adults and maintain professional boundaries
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and supportive environment
  • Working closely with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for people who are genuinely passionate about supporting others and making a real difference.

You will ideally have previous experience as a:

  • Support Worker
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Mental Health Support Worker
  • Care Assistant
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Learning Disability Support Worker
  • Autism Support Worker
  • Clinical Support Worker

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience working in health and social care, mental health, learning disabilities or complex needs
  • Live locally to Taunton or can reliably commute to Cygnet Hospital Taunton
  • Can work flexibly across a rota, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays
  • Ideally hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
  • Are calm, patient, resilient and able to work well under pressure
  • Are excellent communicators and strong team players
  • Can provide a trusting, stimulating and varied environment for service users
  • Are committed to empowering people and supporting independence

Important information

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

This role involves shift work, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Due to the shift patterns and location, being able to drive or having reliable transport is highly desirable.
