Role: Assistant Psychologist, Secure Ward

We’re looking for someone who..
• has completed a degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) or equivalent
• has Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society
• has experience in health care and/or in an Assistant Psychologist role, preferably in forensic services
• is passionate about learning and working as part of an interdisciplinary team

Hours: Full Time Monday to Friday, 08.00 to 16:00, 37.5 Hours.

Site: Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is mental health hospital consisting of six wards (male low and medium secure, two male PICU’s, one female acute and one male acute). We achieved an overall ‘Good’ rating from a recent CQC inpection and we strive to work towards an outstanding rating.

Role: We are currently looking to employ a full time Assistant Psychologist to join our Psychology Department at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage. The successful candidate will join a team comprised of qualified, trainee, assistant and honorary psychologists and will work across Secure, PICU and Acute wards. The Assistant Psychologist will need to be able to work independently, safely, and ethically within the limits agreed with their supervisor. The post holder will be working closely with and will be supervised weekly by a qualified psychologist, who will also be the post holder’s line manager. We are seeking a strong candidate to support and enhance the psychological care of patients at the service by assisting the team with;

  • Administering and reporting psychometric assessments/outcome measures

  • Developing clinical and risk formulations, and safety plans

  • Developing and implementing care plans for psychological interventions

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating individual/group treatment programmes

  • Supporting with the development of Positive Behaviour Support plans

  • Administration, audit, research and service development

  • Contribute to the training and support of staff

  • Access to the Assistant Psychology Development Programme (APDP): Cygnet offers an Assistant Psychology Development Programme (APDP) which is open to all Assistant (and Honorary Assistant) Psychologists across Cygnet Healthcare. The APDP is a (regional/national) structured development programme that aims to develop professional knowledge and in turn increase the quality of care that we provide to our service users. Members registered on the APDP benefit from:

    • A programme designed to run in parallel to individual and group supervision, provided at service level with a supervising Qualified Psychologist

    • Access to curriculum of exclusive online lectures prerecord by Cygnet Qualified Psychologists, addressing topics relevant to the role of an AP in order to build clinical knowledge. These lectures are spread across five modules including Clinical skills, Psychoeducation, Psychological approaches, Research skills and Career development.

    • The opportunity to attend a programme of live interactive workshops facilitated by Cygnet specialists, providing the opportunity for APs to discuss and explore topics related to Professional development, to facilitate reflective discussions, and encourage critical thinking.
