This role is a hybrid role with two days a week in our Birmingham Office and as needed to support business

A data professional with knowledge of supporting an organisation wide analytics strategy, supporting the needs of customers within a self-service BI environment, developing reporting solutions from business requirements through use of BI Development approaches and database and reporting technologies.

You will help translate business requirements into technical solutions, model complex datasets, create interactive data visualisations and support in transforming Cygnet into a data driven business. Being passionate about data and how insight can make the business more efficient and effective is essential to the role.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with multiple stakeholders to understand, interpret and translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and wireframes

  • To develop and maintain data models according to best practice

  • To develop and maintain business intelligence reports using Power BI

  • Promote a self-service standard reporting business culture and BI concepts across the organisation

  • Problem-solve issues relating to bugs, refresh failures and performance

  • The point of contact for several business areas and becoming a trusted partner in evaluating and ensuring deliverables meet business requirements and add value.

  • Proactively support business areas, promoting data literacy and user engagement through workshops, demonstrations, training material and resolving issues

  • To communicate and convey complex information in plain English both written and verbal

  • Work in line with agile methodology with working experience of DevOps of similar applications.

  • Work closely with Data Engineers to prepare and validate data through pipelines

  • Bring new ideas and innovation to enhance BI & Analytics capabilities

  • To create or recommend reporting solutions to support business areas

  • Promote accuracy, performance and quality in reporting solutions and data through testing and proposing improvements in recording practices and processes

  • Engaged in learning and following guidance on best practice, BI methodologies and processes from management, senior colleagues and industry knowledge.

  • Documentation of BI processes and logic

  • Awareness of version control via Git, DevOps or similar

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Must have at least 3 years previous experience in an analysis role with Power BI or equivalent. Consideration may be given to individuals applying from a related academic field starting a career in Data & Analytics.

  • Experience in Data Visualisation concepts to promote impact on business users and consistency

  • Knowledge of data modelling especially semantic models

  • Understanding of the report development lifecycle

  • Experience of developing and maintaining performant BI reports and dashboards

  • Experience working with BI platforms like Power BI or equivalent including DAX or similar

  • SQL Skills

  • Understanding of statistical methods and data analysis skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills in order to explain complex concepts to non-technical or senior stakeholders

  • Effective listening skills in order to understand the requirements of the business

  • Planning, time management and organisational skills

  • Ability to deliver under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Great attention to detail

  • Self-motivation and comfortable working independently

  • Knowledgeable in data management and governance including data protection

  • Evidence of providing clear documentation of data processing and logic

  • Engaged and enthusiastic about industry changes and bringing innovation into the business

  • Team working skills and a collaborative approach to sharing ideas and finding solutions

  • Knowledge of Microsoft stack (Azure and Fabric) such as Data Factory, Synapse, Lakehouse etc. would be advantageous

  • Awareness of Cloud data warehousing technology especially Snowflake would be advantageous
